The Perth Data Centre - Global Communication

As part of our telecommunications expansion through Australasia, the Shack Group has chosen the city of Perth, Australia to host our new administration and data facilities. The Perth Data Centre will offer our clients and customers advanced data processing and storage capabilities to better improve global communications. With a high focus on security and redundancy, the Shack Group looks forward to the launch of its data center in the last quarter of 2007 as a stable platform by which to step into new markets and technologies that are growing throughout Asia Pacific.

Sun Microsystems & Microsoft – Advanced Server Technology:

The Perth Data Centre is now officially under construction. We have purchased a consignment of high-speed servers from Sun Microsystems in America, and are in the process of setting up the infrastructure that will connect them directly to the internet backbone through fiber optics. Years of experience with networking and information technology are being applied to create a state of the art data center which will focus on the latest developments in web technology. The Shack Group is hoping to develop the Perth Data Centre in new directions that bring innovation to the local business community while being cost effective and easy for people to use.

The second stage of the data center is also in progress. We will be developing a Microsoft Cluster Computing Centre in Perth to offer virtual-hosted Microsoft software solutions on the web in 2009, as well as a satellite uplink data center in Kalgoorlie to serve the mining community in the region. The Shack Group is also investing in broadband technology, ISDN, VoIP, and a number of hardware based telecommunications systems to deploy in the fall of 2008.

The Perth Data Centre & Open Source Development:

One area that we will be focusing our application work at the Perth Data Centre will be Open Source software. It is well known that the Open Source model of free, user-driven software development has begun to outpace proprietary systems, not only for its affordability but for its advanced features and functionality. We expect our Linux-based server configurations to outpace the demand for Windows-based servers by nearly a 3 to 1 margin, while being priced equally in disk space and data throughput.

The reason for this is the great surge in interest in Open Source web development symbolized by the popularity of WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and other social networking software on the internet today. Perth Print Design, long a leading developer of web sites and graphic art solutions for local businesses, will also be increasing their development services in these areas. We also plan to include the content management system Liferay in our portfolio, as well as the ecommerce system Magento, the ad management system OpenX, SugarCRM customer relationship management software, and many others. What will make the Perth Data Centre unique is an integrated approach to design and development that operates side by side our server configuration and hosting services.

Businesses will be able to choose between dedicated servers and shared hosting packages as best befits their IT needs and budgets. We will be offering web design, graphic art, and desktop publishing services in association with our web hosting packages. Clients will be able to have their network systems custom designed, installed, configured, and managed monthly by the same network of developers and the same attention to detail, professionalism, and quality that our staff is famous for. In association with this, we will also be providing training in Information Technology for students and businesses in the Perth area in 2008-2009 that are growing throughout Asia Pacific.
