The Shack Group strives to limit its environmental impact and footprint on the Earth’s delicate eco-system. We aim to not just comply with local, national and international emission standards but to excel and be a leader and corporate role model for others. The Shack Group places high requirements on ecological and environmental criteria within all of our projects. All of the Shack Group’s subsidiaries aim to enhance their current workplace resources by introducing environmental initiatives.
As the majority of the services offered by the Shack Group are digital in nature, and based on server technology and software development, we believe that furthering the global digital economy is one of the best ways to improve environmental conditions. Where paper is used in our offices, we seek to purchase recycled products and even offer hand-made, organic papers to our clients for environmentally conscious business publications. Waste paper in the office is also recycled, as are plastics and aluminum cans.
When analyzing our carbon footprint, energy use is the biggest concern as our data center and computer labs are particularly high in consumption of electricity. As a consequence, we have decided to support environmental initiatives in Australia and around the world that promote the use of sustainable energy sources like hydropower, solar, geothermal, wind, and tidal technologies for the production of electricity. We are currently analyzing our carbon footprint to determine what methods can best be taken to offset our energy consumption.
The degree to which our electricity consumption leads to pollution by the process of its production should be offset by an equal investment in reforestation and Green initiatives. We donate our old computers to charity and community centers rather than landfills, and are looking to recycle used print cartridges to the same programs. Our employees are encouraged to take public transportation or bicycle to work, and most acts of environmental consciousness we practice are simple, common sense measures taken by our employees day to day.
Our Alumni Association includes a committee to oversee and advance environmental initiatives in the office structure of the Shack Group. Employees wishing to participate in this process can get in touch with other committee members at their monthly meetings. Environmental groups wishing to host awareness raising seminars at the Shack Group are welcome to contact us via email with proposals.
